Britain in Fall Day 3

After a long day, I did sleep in a bit this morning. We had a bit of fun, Trevor and I took the midget out for a drive in the countryside. Well, he did most of the driving, as A. the midget has some unique "challenges" and B. driving in Britain generally has its own challenges for the not-so-experienced American driver like myself. The first special challenge was folding myself into the thing (it is v. small) but once inside, we had a great time. I have had few convertible experiences, but have found all of them to be enjoyable. If I had a garage to store one I wouldn't be against having a little one with which to whiz about.

Anyway, after our little jaunt we collected Stacy and drove to base in the "big" car (which is dwarfed by the likes of my car) We went to the Shopette without gas and the Commissary (grocery store). We also checked out the "Lemon Lot" for a car for Stacy. The base is an interesting place, difficult to explain, like I've said before, an interesting mix of Britain and the civilian and military United States. I found the dozens of teens at the Commissary bagging and taking groceries to your car for tips thing kind of odd, but I guess it is one of the few things the American kids can do for a job.

After supplying ourselves, we headed back to Bury. Trevor called in an order to the new Indian place in town which apparently was started by some transplants from Brick Lane. Trevor and I went to gather the takeout and discovered that the salad and papadam were on the house! I had tasty chicken kourma, kind of sweet, with coconut. Interesting.

Trevor had planned festivities for the night. He invited several of his American dentist pals over for some pub-crawling bar-hopping fun in Bury. Their British neighbor Helen was also to join us. Going out to the first place, the Queen's Head, we were nine Americans strong. Upon entering the pub, it was quite busy. However, we made our way back to a more open patio. I had myself a pint of Strongbow, which I pretty much stuck to this night and this trip.

Soon we were joined by Helen. We moved on, our next stop was Bar 3. This place was also quite busy. The nightlife in Bury is surprisingly (to me, anyway) active. The decor of Bar 3 was interesting, part "futuristic," part old-school, part construction site- you basically walked through the studs remaining from a wall to get from one half of the bar to the other. I found a place along a side wall with the group and watched the action, it was quite enjoyable from my standpoint!

Our next stop was LF1, a dance club. Our stay here was brief, as several members of our party has become a bit too intoxicated to responsibly keep them out any longer. Some of the relatively sober among us stopped at the nearby UK Best Kebab for some tasty food. We think I got the chicken doner, whatever it was it was good and they gave me a TON of it. And I ordered the small! We returned to trevstac's place and ate a bit more before crashing for the night.

Good choice on the Strongbow!

Hmmm... it's dated Sept 25 and I just got notification of this on Oct 31. Have you been pre-dating these posts again??

Your posts are making me jealous. I want to get back there...

"A bit too intoxicated ..."

Always one for understatement, eh?

So ... there's a link that says "recently" on the right side of my screen.

So ... that's on, like ... a geologic time scale?
