Your Pal Bill

Catching Up

I've been wanting to post things here for a while but obviously haven't been getting around to it. So instead of posting and back-dating things here individually as is my habit, I'll just bring everything up to date here in one go.

The weekend after I was up in Washington, I helped my brother and his family move from Springfield to Hillsboro. Moving is rarely a fun thing to do, less so in 100+ degress of heat. I think it got up to 108 that day in parts of the valley. So that was not so much fun.

The next weekend I attended my 10-year high school reunion. I really wasn't too sure what to expect, and frankly I was pretty nervous about the whole thing. It all worked out, though. People didn't seem to have changed all that much and are doing well for themselves on the balance. It was good to see most folks. It was interesting to see so many people I had forgotten about because they were more acquaintances than close pals. There were only a few people missing that I would have liked to have seen. Overall I think there were over 150 alums there.

The weekend after that was lovely, and I decided to stick to the coast. On Saturday I drove up to Rockaway, and was wandering about, and the steam train was there. People seemed to be getting on board, so I bought tickets for a round trip between Roackaway and Garibaldi, 30 minutes each way with a 30 minute payover. Now normally the drive is maybe 5 minutes, so it wasn't speedy, but the open-air cars were fun, the views between Barview and Garibaldi particularly spectacular. Much better than when speeding by on the highway.

The next week was fair week, so again this year I got the season pass and headed over for four days of good fun and bad (but tasty) food! I also worked a lot this year at the TCTD booth. On Saturday I sat with some guys from camp to watch the pig-n-ford World Championships and the demoition derby.

And speaking of camp, the next day I headed down for another week as a volunteer commissioner. It was fun to just get away and do something that is some ways more relaxing and other ways more energy-consuming than the regular routine, if that makes sense. However on Saturday after all the scouts left, we started taking camp down and it started raining. So I spent Sunday recovering from ill-ness and sore-ness, and much of this week with the sniffles.
