Nothing Like It in the World
I finished up Nothing Like It in the World a few days ago. I purchased it before leaving for Europe, hoping to have something to read on the plane. It served its purpose well, I nearly finished it on my trip. I just needed a few nights after returning to Tillamook to complete the task.
I hadn't ever read any Ambrose before, my dad is fond of him however. And since the book is about the building of the Transcontinental Railroad (trains!!), I thought it would be enjoyable. It was very interesting to see what went on in the backrooms of then-corporate America to get the thing built. Kinda shady, but everyone would have to admit that what was accomplished was quite grand. I mean, you don't give a book a title like this without having something to back it up!
