The Shipping News

This last week I finished The Shipping News. I started it when I was visiting my sister, with her copy that I had bought for her a while ago. I got into it, so when I got back to Tillamook, I took out the copy from the library and picked up where I had left off. I enjoyed the book, it was written in a unique style with a lot of fragmented sentences. I think the style fit the setting: the rough, rocky North Atlantic coast of Newfoundland. Although I've never been to any of the maritime provinces, the book described the place physically and socially- and how the two are connected to each other.

I was never good at literature analysis and stuff. Apparently I got the wrong answer!

ah, there aren't any wrong answers in literature! other than the classic, "this book sucks." "why do you say that?" "i don't know. it just did."

i think the style fits the substance, though also really annoys me. i am interested to see the movie, though, to see how they relayed that on the screen. since you can't, you know, movie in fragmented sentences.
