How Can You Stand IE?
What is wrong with you people? Maybe it is because I never switched over, but I cant *stand* Internet Explorer. When forced to use it I have a trying time of it. Yet, I still see in my logs that most of you (that aren't robots, anyway) are still using it. Get with the times, folks, I've been using Mozilla for years now and I don't know what I'd do without it. I hear Firebird is pretty cool, too. Do yourself a favor and get another browser. I want to see my logs turn around!

I gotta say, Microsoft would have an okay browser if it just had some pop-up blocking built in. That's my #1 complaint. I've also gotten used to tabbed browsing offered by Mozilla and Safari. I'm afraid, Kristin, that this time, he's right.
So, Bill, you can pretty much tell which hits are from *this* computer, eh? :)

no. i meant dumb that we should change solely for bill.

I agree with Kristin--we shouldn't change for Bill. However...I'm kinda leaning toward Mozilla for the tabs and window management (I hate having ninetyfivethousand windows open for browsing). That said--the reason I use IE still is because of the wonderful Google Toolbar which (correct me if I'm wrong) isn't supported on Mozilla.

Don't change for me- change for yourself! Seriously, IE sucks.
My understanding is that there is a Google toolbar in Firebird:

Frankly the only thing the IE toolbar has that I wish I had is the highlighting of the search terms.

opera has tabby thingys too. but it has an ad. it's small and i don't notice it anymore. i like its fun mouse gestures.
and, there is some debate about google toolbar being spyware, which you may or may not believedepending on how paranoid/conspiracy theory-y you all are. as far as i can tell, though, its two main benefits are things that opera also has. that being popup blocking and a way to bypass the google webpage to search. in opera you just have to type g and then your search terms in the address bar. is v. nice.

I read about google tracking whatnots in a librarian magazine. As might be expected, the librarians were not into that.
How about this for why I use IE, Bill - it came with the computer!

who needs google toolbar when you can just put a googlebox on your homepage? it's all about maximizing the screen real-estate...

Heh. Allllright.

yeah, the librarians have mixed feelings about google, actually. i was going to take a class about google next term but then i found one about intellectual freedom instead.

and kelley, what librarian magazine were you reading, and why?

hmm, i don't know what it was called. i was at the very back of those stacks at the Knight Library, for the Publisher's Weekly, and i picked it up to see what librarians are talking about now. they're quite a cultural force in a way i like very much, so i was interested.

yay! you should go to library school! it's fun!

I've never used the Google Toolbar (Because I don't use IE, I use several good browsers on different computers). However, doesn't the Google Toolbar just an easy way to search Google? It's all built-in to Mozilla / Firebird / Camino.
I'm not even putting IE on our Mac OS X 10.3 images that are going out Winter Break, as it's not supported any more. On our PCs, you have to go to Start -> Programs -> Web Browsers to get to it. Mozilla is in the System Tray and the Quick Launch area. People still torture themselves with IE. I don't get it.
