Road Trip Day 1

Trevor and I started the day off with a trip to the airport Thrifty to pick up our car for the trip. We decided to rent in order to save wear and tear on our own cars, and since we were going to rent a car anyway, we went ahead and got a convertible. We figured that it would be ideal for touring through the many scenic areas we were planning to tour. We picked up our '04 Sebring and went our separate ways to get ready for the big trip. A little after noon, we were on our way east. We took I-84 through the gorge with the top down. We were concerned that interstate speeds would be too windy for topless travel, but it seemed to work out better than we expected.

We stopped at Hood River to put the top up, and happened across a Saturday market beginning to close up. We stopped to buy some cherries, but they had just sold out, so they gave us the rest of the samples for free! They were very fresh and tasty! Soon, we were back on our way. Soon we had passed the furthest east either of us had been in Oregon. We stopped in LaGrande for gas and to get some sales-tax-free groceries. After a short dinner stop in Ontario, we headed across the Snake River and the state border into Idaho! (State number 23!)

By this time dusk was drawing on, so we drove about 25 miles to Caldwell, and stayed at a private campground for the night. It was nice enough, with a little lake for fishing... and breeding mosquitos. We each had a few bites by the time we rolled out of there the next morning.
