Easter Weekend

I went over to Portland this weekend for the Easter holiday. I just screwed around with Trevor on Friday and Saturday. His account of the weekend pretty much goes for me, too. I will say that Trevor was crazy about that new-fangled playground device. I thought it was cool and fun and stuff, but he was insane about it. Also I will say that the random marching band we saw was totally odd.

They had all manner of psuedo-militaristic outfits on. But never an entire outfit- just a jacket, or a hat or something. Some guys had strange facepaint. Some of the women looked like they came out of a Moulin Rouge costume party. The whole thing looked like it was out of a Terry Gilliam movie. I didn't even know if they were a band or what when I first saw them. They were just warming up and stuff while we were eating, then as we finished they went in the back door of the music place.

I just wandered over to hear them as they went in, but Trevor crept closer and went in behind them. Then someone asked me and some girl there if we were with them, and I pointed at Trevor and said I was with him, so they ushered me in. We hung out backstage for probably 10 minutes or so, next to a photographer dude who told Trevor that the band were "musical terrorists." All the while the ladies of the night were doing stuff backstage. It was a very surreal experience. I'm still not quite sure what to make of it.

Easter Sunday was downright normal by comparison. I was sad that Kelley couldn't be there, though. But my sister-in-law was there. She is pregnant and stuff!

Back at work, things are finally rolling on the GIS front. The software is installed and I'm getting some things digitized. We'll see how it goes!

yes, people are usually sad when i'm not around.

i spent some time "backstage" at the wow hall on saturday.

there's a guerilla marching band in eugene. once they came into the tiny tavern while another band was playing. the place was packed - and the place is tiny - but they barged in and stood on top of the tables to play.

that was one crazy flag day.

this is completely unrelated, but the drummer for modest mouse (surely you've heard of them) quit, and they asked benji weikel to cover for him.
crazy, huh?
